SERVICE TIMES

Our Sunday service schedule:
9:00am - Traditional Hymns with piano
10:30am - Contemporary Music with guitar

Please note: Most services have words projected on a screen in the altar area, making it easier to follow along.

****************************************************
We will have services this Sunday!  Below are some of the bullet points.  There is a lot of information; please take some time to go through it all.  Also, feel free to share this with other contacts you have in the church family.

We will now have 2 services.
9:00       TRADITIONAL SERVICE
10:30     CONTEMPORARY SERVICE

  • Entry to the building will be from the parking lot door.  Front doors will be for exit only.
  • Everyone must wear a mask.  Please bring your own, and there will be masks available at church.
  • Social distancing will be observed both in pews and throughout the building.  To help with that, please do not congregate and socialize in the Narthex.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available in multiple places.
  • Alternate pews will be roped off to assist with social distancing.  (your favorite spot may not be available, please be flexible)
  • Hymnals and Bibles are removed from the pews, everything will be projected.  Tissues will be available in the pews.
  • There will be no paper bulletins- everything will be projected and or instructed.
  • There will be a place to drop offerings in the Narthex, we will not pass the plate through the pews.
  • Pews and high-touch areas will be wiped down between services.
  • We will also need to keep attendance so we can have contact tracking in (hopefully unlikely) event that it is necessary.

Singing- music is such an integral part of Methodist worship, but we will have to make some adjustments.
Open singing from the pews can’t be safely done.  We project a droplet cloud when we sing that goes farther than when speaking.  Singing with a mask is difficult and not particularly healthy with taking in deeper breaths of our own carbon dioxide.  So humming along with the songs is all we can do from the pews for now.
We have set up some modified drum shield acrylic panels so we can have live music/singing from the front.  These will help contain any droplet clouds and we are 15-20’ from the first row of pews.  For now we have three shield installations so we will be limited to me and two singers until we can get a couple more.  So we may need to develop a rotation from one Sunday to the next so we all get a chance to sing.  Singers up front can sing without masks but are encouraged to wear them when not singing and encouraged to stay up front though the service.
For the traditional service, Richard will play piano and hymns will be projected to hum along with.
This will be like learning to walk again after knee surgery- a little awkward and painful at first.  It will take a while to find a new rhythm to our worship.  But, we are truly blessed to be able to gather together again to worship!
Hope to see you Sunday!!

The Itzels

Letter to the congregation

Congregational Update,

As we continue to live through uncertain times I want to share with you some thoughts on where we are as Arbutus Church.

The first thing we need to say is Thank You!  We are learning new ways to serve, share and be the body of Christ in a world where the rules and norms are changing every day.   Telephones, texts, the internet and social media have become critical to our communicating with and supporting each other.  Thank you to all who have been diligent in checking up on those around you.  Thank you for the lessons shared through video, song and writing.   Thank you for the prayers constantly being offered for the church family and all that is going on around us.  Thank you for the masks being sewn and the groceries being dropped off.   God is working in and through you in all these things.

Thank you for your financial faithfulness.  Through your generosity and God’s faithfulness we have been able to stay current on all our financial obligations.   We are in a good position as we finish the month of April and move into the unknown of May.   We are praying that we will be able to begin meeting soon. But, God alone knows the timing of that.   In the meantime we thank you for your faithfulness and ask your continued support.

Please continue to hold each other, our community, our medical personnel, our leaders, our nation and the world in prayer.   If you need to reach me my email is irabarr2@verizon.net and the parsonage phone is 410-242-3466.   God is faithful, draw closer to him!

God’s Blessings,

Ira

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own insight.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
